Policy Updates
New Location
As of September 1, 2008, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs has moved to a new location at 1124 in the Bioinformatics building. It still has its primary location at Bynum.
State’s Flexible Furlough Program
UNC Chapel Hill has received instruction from the Office of State Budget & Management and UNC General Administration that
/Post-doctoral Trainees/ (Code 27) that are paid via stipend and exempt from Social Security & Medicare Taxes are exempt from the State’s Flexible Furlough Program.
/Post-doctoral Research Associates/ (Code 28) that are paid a salary and have withholding for Social Security & Medicare Taxes will be subject to the Flexible Furlough Program. Any Post-doctoral Research Associate holding an H1-B visa will also be subject to the flexible furlough, if paid above the prevailing wage.
Changes to Postdoc Health Insurance Plan
Effective July 1, 2009- There will be an decrease in insurance cost for the postdoc and their dependents for health insurance. This decrease will be passed on to the PIs. There will be a small increase for Campus Health Service fees. All postdocs who are currently enrolled will receive a letter regarding the new policy changes.
Criminal Background Check
As of October 15, 2007, the University requires a criminal conviction check be conducted for prospective postdoc appointees prior to appoinment.
