Carolina enjoys a strong tradition of research excellence.  According to the National Science Foundation (2005), Carolina ranked 10th in federal funding for fellowships, traineeships, and training grants, providing evidence of the overall strength of our graduate and postdoctoral training programs. Further, The Center (2006) reported that Carolina ranked 12th among public universities in the number of postdoctoral scholars attracted to Chapel Hill because of its research strength.
